pedriceña chapel |
Distant about 100 kilometers to the
southwest of Torreón, Coah./Gómez
Palacio, Dgo. MX, Pedriceña was from
colonial times a mining establishment.
The deposits of this region of the
state of Durango were operated by the
foreign company American Smelting and
Refining company (ASARCO). Built on a
small hill by the wife of one of the
high civil employees of the company,
this eccentric construction was going to
be the mortuary chapel of this marriage.
By diverse reasons it was not finished,
and therefore, never it was used.
Now, it is used to venerate to the
Virgin of Guadalupe by local people and
is victim of the vandals who do not know
to their beauty and its historical
value.
